The second part of this story is about how much myth there has been about the female body throughout the ages . This was probably the most fun i have had while researching !
The first point of my research was ancient Greece , more specifically , Plato. Plato was a philosopher who came up with the theory of the forms ( very interesting , even inspired the Matrix) this was the idea that there is a separate spiritual world , different and better then our own and our souls lived there before going into our bodies and return there after we die. Like heaven and regeneration mixed together. Why am i telling about this? Well, this is because Plato also believed that being in a female body was punishment as females were insubordinate to males as males were 'the creators of life'. Plato believed that it was male sperm that gave life and got women pregnant and that women could not ejaculate. Oh how wrong he was.
Moving on a few years , one of my favorites was this idea of a 'wandering womb' whenever something was wrong with a female. This could be diagnosed for the common cold and brain damage. The idea was that a women was 'iffy' because her womb had gone for a walk and was away from her. the best thing about this is how they would 'fix' this. Doctors would put erotic smells near the vagina in order to lure the womb back in. So females, if you are a bit under the weather, shove a Yankee candle up your vagina. ( please don't do this )
Moving from the Greeks and into the middle-ages! It gets better. although the idea of the womb being its own animal was not common for illnesses within women, there was one common cure for when a women was ill of anything. An exorcism. If a womb wasn't having a stroll, she was then deemed as possessed by the devil. So maybe next time you get the cold, best to see a priest.
When talking about female health through the years, the best example i have got ( or what google threw at me) was Female Hysteria. Most importantly , what was thought at first what hysteria was . In the 16th and 17th Century , Hysteria was believed to be a problem regarding the Uterus, more specifically , there was a lack of sperm in the uterus . Sperm was seen to have a healing quality and so having sex with men so he would ejaculate inside of a female was seen as a cure!... As a lesbian i have mixed feelings about this.
It wasn't until the 18th and early 19th Century that hysteria became known as a psychological issue. Apparently , Females has nothing to be stressed about so when a women showed signs of hysteria ( stress and maybe wanting to get frisky) they were sent away. A common cure for hysteria was female masturbation , which is where sex toys have come from! i can't actually be that mad about this one as i can see where masturbation might help. However, even though it was shown in both sexes , were males diagnosed with hysteria? Hardly.
so health advice according to history for females, if you feel ill wave a scented candle around your vagina because your wound might be wanting to party , or go see a priest cause you might be possessed, and remember, males get stressed. females have hysteria!
i had a lot of fun with this one!
